Your First Pilates Class in Dubai: What to Expect
By The SKULPD Team
Published Updated
Your first Pilates class at SKULPD will be about 50 minutes of slow, controlled movement on a mat, with an instructor showing you options to make each exercise easier or harder. You don’t need to be fit, flexible or experienced. You just need to arrive a little early.
Walking into a new studio on your own is often the hardest part. We built SKULPD as a community studio, so let us know it’s your first class when you arrive and we’ll help you settle in.
Which Pilates class should a beginner book first?
Start with Skulpd Form, our foundational mat Pilates class. It covers the basics properly: how to breathe, how to engage your core and how to find good posture, and every other class builds on them. Form runs several times a week, in both non-heated and infrared-warm sessions. For a first class, we suggest a non-heated one.
After a few classes, ask your instructor what to try next. They’ll suggest a class based on how you’re finding it and what you enjoy.
If you’d rather learn the basics one to one before joining a group, a private 1:1 session is 60 minutes with an instructor working entirely around you.
What to wear and bring to your first Pilates class
Wear fitted activewear, like leggings and a fitted top, so you can move freely and your instructor can see your alignment. Grip socks are recommended. Bring a water bottle and a small towel. Mats and all props are provided.
What happens on the day
Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early to check in, and tell your instructor about any injuries, pregnancy or health conditions. Late entry isn’t possible once class has started, so leave time to park. Parking is available at Triple 7 Center. Some sessions are women’s-only and some are mixed, and each class on the timetable shows which it is.
During class, expect to move more slowly than you might think. A bit of shaking is normal, and so is taking a pause. You’re in control of your own intensity, and your instructor will help you find the right level.
You might feel some muscles the next day, especially if Pilates is new to you. That’s common, but soreness isn’t the goal and it isn’t a sign of a good class. If something hurts, mention it to your instructor before your next session.
